Introduction:

We are excited to welcome you to the 2023 International Digitization Seminar and Workshop for MAQIVE: Malaysia Aqua Archive; A Digital Archive of Malaysia’s Biodiversity Historia. A collaborative initiative by South China Sea Repository and Reference Centre (RRC), a unit under Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS) in partnership with Faculty of Science and Marine Environment (FMSE), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA)-Hub Malaysia. This project, generously funded by the Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA), USA represents a significant milestone in the endeavour to preserve and share Malaysia’s rich biodiversity legacy.

The seminar and workshop serve as a forum for experts, scholars, and enthusiasts to delve into the transformative impact of digital technology on the preservation and accessibility of natural history collections. Through engaging discussions, hands-on workshops, and collaborative sessions, we aim to not only explore the technical aspects of digitization but also underscore its broader implications for outreach and international engagement in the realm of biodiversity conservation.

Set to take place on the 22nd and 23rd of November 2023, this event will be hosted in the digital realm through the user-friendly ZOOM platform, ensuring accessibility to a global audience. What’s even more exciting is that this invaluable learning opportunity comes at no cost, thanks to the generous support of the SOA and UMT, who have recognized the critical importance of initiatives like MAQIVE in advancing marine conservation efforts worldwide.

Format

This event is a two-day virtual event that will feature seminar, workshops, panels, digital project demonstrations, and other events.

  • Day 1 will host online seminar speaker from various digitalization backgrounds.
  • Days 2 will be an online workshop for MAQIVE project include a lecture, demos, panel discussions and interactive activities during events.
 

Because of the virtual nature of the conference, each day will start at 9:00AM and end at 5:00PM, with breaks between programs.
